Interferential Current Therapy
The Kos Chiropractic Centre uses high quality Interferential Current Therapy.
Interferential Current (IFC) stimulation is characterized by the crossing of two electrical currents of various frequencies which work together to effectively stimulate large nerve fibers. These frequencies ease the transmission of pain messages at the spinal cord. Interferential therapy is very comfortable treatment achieving deep tissue penetration, stimulating tissue, reducing pain and increasing blood flow.
Interferential Stimulation differs from TENS because it allows a deeper penetration of the tissue with more comfort (compliance) and increased circulation. Interferential current is essentially a deeper form of TENS. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the IFC units may be useful for patients who have not had relief from TENS.
Interferential current is commonly used for any of the following conditions:
- joint injury syndrome
- cumulative trauma disorders
- increasing circulation
- pre and post-orthopedic surgery
- pain control of various origins
Interferential Therapy has been in use for many years and its effectiveness is well documented.
